A Prediction

June 27, 2003 07:53 PM

Howard Dean is going to raise more money in this quarter than any other Democratic candidate.

This will shock the political world.

To put this in perspective. Last quarter Edwards raised $7.4 million and Kerry raised $7 million. Dean was 5th on the list with $2.6 million, far more than anticipated. The estimates for this quarter are Kerry with $5 million, Gephardt with $5 million, Edwards with $4-5 million, and Dean with $3.5-$4.5 million.

There are 3 days left in the quarter. Help prove me right by contributing to Dean's campaign.

UPDATE: There are 40 hours to go before the deadline, and the campaign just announced that they have raised $6 million! $2.8 million of that in the last 8 days.

I think the big story of Q2 will be Dean. The second story could very well be why the others (Kerry, Edwards, Gephardt, Lieberman) didn't break their Q1 numbers. Candidates unable to show momentum from Q1 to Q2 are in serious financial trouble. Traditionally Q1 leads to a larger Q2 followed by a smaller Q3 where the frontrunner continues to grow and most opposition tapper down signifigantly. Let's see what the others say. I predict the following:

Dean 7m
Kerry 6.75
Edwards 6.5
Gephard 5.5
Lieberman 3.5
Graham 2.5
Kucinich .5
Braun (actually loosing money) ;-)
Sharpton no report lol

Dean just sent an email out: "Our fundraising total for the second quarter has surged from 3.2 million dollars to 6 million dollars in just eight days."

He then puts out a challenge to raise another $500K in 40 hours, to bring the total to $6.5 million.

This is a big, big story. American politics has never seen anything like the Dean campaign. If this doesn't wake the establishment up, they are already in a coma.
