I have adamantly opposed the recall for awhile now. It's partisan politics at its ugliest and it's created huge gridlock in the budget crisis. Putting a Republican in office would compound that even more. Now that the recall election is set for October 7th, it's increasingly apparent that leaving Gray Davis in office will make the crisis even worse. The lack of public support for Davis is astounding - just having the election is a huge vote of no confidence. Even though it's a gross oversimplification to put all the blame on Davis, that's where we're at. I'm not willing to help save Davis only to be left with a lame duck Governor that can't get anything done. I am willing, however, to rally behind a candidate who can make the tough decisions necessary to fix this state. That candidate needs a broad base of support and the trust of the California people. That candidate is Dianne Feinstein.
