Literally, this has been my dream: to fund each brave new film with small contributions online., and we just proved it's totally possible. It means we can make any movie, no matter the subject (as long as it's not too expensive!) For our films to break even, there's a gap between what we can make by selling DVDs and various other traditional ways of making money with film, and what it costs to make them. It's possible to close that gap, but we'd have to be more restrictive in things like free screenings... which doesn't make any sense since the whole point is to get as many people to see the films as possible. So the more we can rely on our base of supporters to fund a greater portion of each film, the less money we need to make from traditional means, which gives us more flexibility in how we can reach beyond the choir. This opens up some interesting possibilities for what we can do with Iraq for Sale in September.... Step by step.
