Today, Gray Davis is being inaugurated as governor of California. He faces the worst budget shortfall in California history: $35 billion dollars, or 35% of the $99 billion budget.
Daniel Weintraub, a columnist for the Sacramento Bee, wrote an excellent column detailing exactly why the state is in such a financial mess, and the options available to fix it.
Bottom line? The easiest way to fix the budget problem is to make sure the rich get richer.
