CDnow gains in question - E-retailer counts coupons as sales

When a customer buys $25 worth of CDs and uses a $10 coupon, CDnow books $25 in revenue and then takes a $10 marketing charge. ''Coupons are not ad campaigns. They are discounts that should be knocked off the top,'' says Jack Ciesielski, accounting watchdog with R.G. Associates.
