Recalling my Recall of the Recall

August 1, 2003 2:02 PM

I have adamantly opposed the recall for awhile now. It's partisan politics at its ugliest and it's created huge gridlock in the budget crisis. Putting a Republican in office would compound that even more.

Now that the recall election is set for October 7th, it's increasingly apparent that leaving Gray Davis in office will make the crisis even worse. The lack of public support for Davis is astounding - just having the election is a huge vote of no confidence. Even though it's a gross oversimplification to put all the blame on Davis, that's where we're at.

I'm not willing to help save Davis only to be left with a lame duck Governor that can't get anything done. I am willing, however, to rally behind a candidate who can make the tough decisions necessary to fix this state. That candidate needs a broad base of support and the trust of the California people.

That candidate is Dianne Feinstein.

The people of California and Diane Feinstein deserve each other.

I would vote for either Feinstein or Riordan. Choosing between the two of them would be tough for me. AFAIK, neither is on the ballot as of this moment. I think Ariana Huffington is on the ballot, and I'm considering voting for her. No way I'm voting for the Terminator.

By the way, Ariana might be a good person to approach regarding a Dean endorsement and/or speaking engagement.

I'm a bigger fan of Loretta Sanchez than I am of Feinstein, but Feinstein has bigger name brand recognition.

I take back my first post. Now that Larry Flint is running California has a real chance at having a governor that truly represents the values of his people. He might even be able to parley the position into a run at the White House.

Gray Davis is a joke, the budget is a joke, this recall is a joke, and a majority of the candidates are....a joke. Then why aren't I laughing?
