$140 billion increase in cost of prescription drug bill

Remember the $400 billion 10-year price tag of last month's prescription drug bill? It's now $540 billion, according to Bush's 2005 budget -- a 35% increase in a month!

The $400 billion price tag was crucial in securing support from conservatives.

Bush is playing a dangerous game with his base right now. Republicans who truly believe in small government are finally starting to notice that Bush is spending recklessly in an attempt to ensure his re-election. So far, they've largely toed the line. How much longer will that last?
