George Soros, Hitler and the Fox News Propagandists
January 12, 2004 3:42 PM
Whoa! Fox News just accused George Soros of equating Bush with Hitler!
That's not even remotely what happened. Soros gave a bunch of money to Moveon. Moveon had a contest where anyone could submit a 30 second ad opposing Bush. Over 1500 people sent in entries, which were then posted on a website for the public to vote on. Over 3 million votes were cast resulting in 15 finalists.
Two of those 1500 entries drew a parallel between Bush and Hitler, and Moveon failed to censor them.
So, to Fox News, George Soros compared Bush to Hitler!

Pete Guither:
Actually, accusing George Soros of equating Bush with Hitler is more likely to have come from his own comments (and not from his contributions to MoveOn):
America, under Bush, is a danger to the world, Soros said. Then he smiled: And Im willing to put my money where my mouth is.
Soros believes a supremacist ideology guides this White House. He hears echoes in its rhetoric of his childhood in occupied Hungary. When I hear Bush say, Youre either with us or against us, it reminds me of the Germans. It conjures up memories, he said, of Nazi slogans on the walls, Der Feind Hort mit (The enemy is listening): My experiences under Nazi and Soviet rule have sensitized me, he said in a soft Hungarian accent.
From MSNBC.
Of course, what he says is true.

Jim Gilliam:
Thanks for the link Pete -- that makes more sense. Soros didn't compare him to Hitler (or Stalin) directly, but I can see how the Fox commentators made the leap a little easier now.

stonedown:
Soros said that Republicans will pay for their criticism of them. He's basically threatening a supersized version of the "Troll Goal" on the Dean blog, where trolling leads to more money for the cause.

fly on the wall:
"The Enemy is always listening"?
This is the same as saying "Loose Lips sink ships" and other nearly identical slogans we had plastered all over the USA during WW2.
Soros doesn't know the difference between what the Nazis do during war time and what any country does during war time.
If people don't like Hitler and Stalin I don't blame them for fearing any big country with imperial tendencies, but Soros needs to remember why Hitler and Stalin's organizations aren't around anymore. The US.
