Uncovered goes global, wins Alternet's Truth to Power Award

I guess I'm a little busy...just noticed Uncovered cleaned up at the Alties. Alternet:

"Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War," Robert Greenwald's bold documentary unmasking Bush administration lies, took top Altie honors for the Truth To Power Award. "Uncovered" had a huge lead over the runner-up, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," and also beat out "Fog of War," Erroll Morris' study of Vietnam war architect Robert McNamara.

As much as people loved "Uncovered," many also marveled at the unique distribution methods the Greenwald team used to bring their indie doc to a wide audience. "Important not only for its content, which history will confirm and current events already are, but for the [MoveOn.org] 'underground' house party distribution method," Mike Dixon wrote.

"This gets my vote for the sheer guts and marketing of this film through nationwide house parties," voter Noel Hermele wrote.

In other Uncovered news. We signed a deal with Cinema Libre for worldwide distribution rights and an extended 90 minute version. We're working furiously on this. The extended version will have its world premiere at Cannes in May. Yes, Cannes!! That's in France! How perfect is that?

What will be in the new extended version? As I looked back at the film, it's amazing how well it stands up in light of recent events. It just gets more relevant as the investigations get under way.

The first go round, we deliberately left out WHY the administration hyped the intelligence to get us into war, choosing instead to focus on the Bushies' claims about the intelligence, exactly how it was wrong, and why this was obvious to intelligence experts from the get go. People were left wanting to know WHY the Bushies lied, so that's the bulk of what the extended version will "uncover."

Way to go the the crew of Uncovered. This is an important film and lots of people are noticing. It will certainly help in avoiding four more years in the Bush.
