"Indie" 103.1 FM -- computerized, corporate rock

May 9, 2004 3:56 PM

Earlier today, I got in my car and drove around for a couple minutes. Then I heard the familiar "ding!" that you get from a Windows computer. It startled me. How often do you hear a computer sound in the car? Then I looked down at my radio. It was on, volume up, and tuned to "Indie" 103.1 FM -- Southern California's new, "independent" radio, sponsored by Clear Channel, and the subject of a glowing review in the pseudo-hip LA Weekly.

About ten seconds later, music started playing. The computer running the playlist had crashed, and it had just rebooted!!
