SUVs are illegal on many residential streets in California

August 4, 2004 11:53 PM

Andy Bowers dug up quite a hum-dinger (er, hummer-dinger?) for Slate today: "The Golden State has outlawed big SUVs on many of its roads but doesn't seem to know it." SUVs are illegal on every residential street in Santa Monica, Pasadena, and Beverly Hills, and have been for years. Governor Arnold is breaking the law!

Good find - Excellent article. Of course, I have to sheepishly admit that I need to borrow my sister in law's Tahoe to tow my sailboat to the water. I will even admit that I considered wearing a hat and wrap around shades since not only is this an SUV, but it has their mortgage co. logo on window, probably enabling it to hide under TWO tax breaks.

My brother is a raging democrat, eager to see Bush exilted from politics yet too timid to place a Kerry for President sticker on his Jaguar (need I state that there is a small Co. logo on this beast as well).

Still, at least his mouth is in the right place.
