Clinton wants top U.N. job in 2006

October 22, 2004 10:04 AM

This UPI article examines some of the political ramifications. The theory is that neither Bush nor Kerry would want him there, but Kerry wouldn't be able to stop it politically, whereas Bush probably could. It'd be amazing if Clinton could whip those folks into shape, and I can't wait for the religious nuts to revisit whether Clinton is the Antichrist, or just paving the way.

You had to get way, way out there on the fringes to find those "Clinton-as-AntiChrist" folks....The strident "GWB is like a retarded Hitler, only meaner and sneakier" folks, however, are right there in the mainstream of today's Democratic party.

Nice company you're in there....

Independent Jones:

I don't think Bush is a retarded Hitler. He just comes off as one sometimes.

Whether I agree with his policies or not, I don't believe that Bush is stupid. I do think he needs to say every sentence in his head at least once before he says it out loud, but then I think that's a good rule for all public speakers.

Clinton as UNSG? That IO has nothing to lose by doing it. It would certainly help legitimize the UN in the international sphere, especially after the latest Oil for Food debacle. Maybe he could push some necessary restructuring through, like restructuring the antiquated Security Council and cleaning up those cooked books. Nothing to lose at all.

And when, as it is said, "mainstream" Democrats start getting vitriolic, maybe, just maybe, it's because of an extraordinarily good reason: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/17/magazine/17BUSH.html?oref=login&oref=login&oref=login&oref=login

After all, anything that could pull that chaotic group of idealists together and get organized must be a legitimately serious concern. That miracle alone indicates there is a real problem.

Right Wing Robby:

I like the idea, as long as he takes Hilary out of New York with him. I have been to his house and would be more than happy to return there and help him pack.

Having an American in the UN would be a good thing for America and the UN.

I think that Clinton would make a terrific Secretary General, because of his "third way" approach to politics. It would be nice to have an American in that post for a change.

Tom from Madison:

I agree. Clinton would be a great Secretary General. He could win much needed suport from the rest of the world in a way that few others could.

I seriously doubt that Hillary would be going anywhere though. She is very valuable as a lightening rod for right wing vitriol. As a group, the neo-cons really seem to need somebody to hate.

CapnAmerica:

You mean Bill Clinton is NOT the Anti-Christ?

ALL of Europe loves Clinton.

Every speech is followed with cultic standing ovations, not unlike Hitler.

European Leftist Androids, and a large segment of American anesthetized sycophants fawn over this "man".
