Please resign, Mr. President

September 17, 2005 1:08 PM

Sidney Blumenthal pens Bush's presidential obituary: "The deepest wound is not that he was incapable of defending the country but that he has shown he lacks the will to do so. In Bush's own evangelical language, he revealed his heart."

It's too dangerous for our country to have a lame duck President in office for another 3 1/2 years.

Mr. President, please resign. It's the right thing to do.

Jim, I'm sure you're familiar with the order of succession (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_line_of_succession) and so no doubt this is a rhetorical request. But still, Cheney, Hastert, Stevens, Rice, Snow, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Norton, where is the name of someone who'd be one iota better?

Good article. Favorite quote:

"The deepest wound is not that he was incapable of defending the country but that he has shown he lacks the will to do so. In Bush's own evangelical language, he revealed his heart."

Jim Gilliam:

Yeah, Bill, I know. And I think that's why Bush's opponents have shied away from stating the obvious. Which I think is a mistake. The idea that Bush has screwed things up so badly and put the country in such a horrible position that it is quite reasonable to expect his resignation, is something the American people need to hear.

And, FWIW, I actually do think Cheney would be one iota a better President than Bush. Particularly since Bush is a lame duck. We need someone who has at least a shred of credibility, and Bush has none.

Tom from Madison:

This is where a parliamentary form of government is looking pretty good. A vote of no confidence would be in order.

It was obvious to me in 1999 that George W Bush was unqualified to be President. He has proved that repeatedly. Now the majority of Americans are realizing it too.

A Democratic House in 2006 would open the door to impeachment. Congressman Conyers has already paved the way. There is enough evidence to bring charges. The rallying cry should be simple.

AMERICA CAN DO BETTER!

PoliticalCritic:

He will never resign, but when the Democrats take control of the House and Senate in November, they will investigate and later impeach this president. He'll be out in less than one year.
