Thank You

November 23, 2006 12:39 PM

Thank you everyone for sending your thoughts and energy my way. For the many prayers on my behalf, for visiting and sending me email.

Thank you Robert Greenwald for your never-ending support, encouragement, and for being my jewish mom.

Thank you Brave New Films -- Devin, Sarah, Rick, Tracy, Lissette, Jim, Paris, Sharleen, and Jesse -- for your understanding, help, and the energy that keeps me engaged and going.

Thank you young male with blood just like mine who gave me his bone marrow. You've given me at least ten more years on planet earth.

Thank you Ramin for the perfectly-timed Sprinkles arrivals, for lifting my spirits, and for being a great friend.

Thank you Kelly for satisfying my random cravings for take-out, for the day-old sushi and for kicking butt at Berkeley.

Thank you Kristen for making me so proud of you, for fighting for what you believe in, for being strong, and being my sister.

Thank you Dad and Maggie, for taking your retirement plans and throwing them out the window when I needed you 15 months ago. For doing everything for me day after day without ever complaining. Cooking, cleaning, water, oxygen, prescriptions, even car maintenance. For keeping everyone in the loop with the blog.

And finally, thank you to the guy who doesn't yet realize he is going to give me both his lungs, and your loved ones too. I promise to make it a good investment.

Jim Gilliam:

I've caused a little confusion. No, there is no lung transplant scheduled.

The person I'm thanking the lungs for is unknown. A person has to die before they can donate two lungs, which means this person is alive right now. The person I'm thanking would have no idea they are the person I'm thanking cause they will not know until they are dead, which means they won't know. So the only time I can thank them is before it happens.

These are the things you think about when you're on a lung transplant list for 317 days. Sorry for the confusion, it made sense to me at the time. :)

Still praying for those lungs. Stay strong, Jim, though I'm sure you don't need us to tell you that =)

Jim *hugs* It's not Thanksgiving over there in Canada (ours was in October) but I know that it's Thanksgiving where you are. Your post is so sweet and beautiful. You are definitely one of the most inspiring people I've ever come across. It takes tremendous wisdom for you to not hate the world for what is happening to you, but to be thankful instead for what you *do* have. Not everyone has your insight, Jim. I think you're amazing. Keep on hanging in there! You'll get your lungs soon. Thanking the man who will be giving his lungs to you ahead of time is what made me teary-eyed at your post (in a good way). I'm sure that whoever he will be, he would be proud to be the one sustaining your life, the one to be giving life to someone as deserving and wonderful as you. I'm keeping you and my brother, Dan (who is waiting for a new heart) in my prayers for always. It's high time the two of you get the organs that you both so richly deserve! Take care, Jim!!! And HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you!!

Ellen:

Jim,
Thanks from me, too. Our blog wouldn't exist without all your help, big and small. There have been so many gifts since the day I "met" you, back in 2/04 when I couldn't attend that conference call to discuss Outfoxed and figured I had blown my chance!

Hope you had a great turkey day with lots of stuffing and pie,
xxoo
